Held every year on 21 March. The Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The Day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster sense of belonging for everyone.
Join us in the month of March:
Social wellbeing is understanding that our own wellbeing is interconnected with the wellbeing of others. When we help ourselves, we help others and when we help others, we help ourselves. A sense of belonging is a vital aspect of wellbeing.
“Wellbeing is affected by social inclusion, the degree to which people are connected with other people, can participate in group activities and can access support when needed. Greater social inclusion is associated with better mental health
outcomes” (Dept of Health and Ageing 2010).
As a social experiment of our own, for the rest of the month of March, we try being more inclusive of the people we engage with in our day to day lives?
With small acts, we may actually contribute to the social wellbeing of those around us, it seems like it couldn’t hurt to try. If you do try to be more open minded towards other people and notice an improvement in your wellbeing, let us know on our Facebook page.
