Medical Services

Unplanned Pregnancy Management

In Western Australia, abortion is legal up until 20 weeks’ gestation, when performed by a medical practitioner.

FWHC offers medical abortions up until nine weeks. Medical abortions require two appointments at our centre. We also offer referrals for surgical terminations.

Our nurses can provide comprehensive advice, help, information and support. Clients are encouraged to talk to a nurse to discuss.

Women’s Health Screening and Well-Women’s Check

Our highly experienced doctors and clinical nurses are specialised in women’s health and can provide  screening for a range of issues.

Cervical screening tests (CSTs) and self-collection HPV tests are available by appointment. If this is all you require, please let us know when making a booking, as we can generally get you in for a screening with one of our nurses much sooner than with our doctors.

However, if you are experiencing any problems, have concerning symptoms, or need a prescription, you will need to make an appointment with one of our doctors.

Our clinical nurses also provide sexually transmitted infection (STI) screenings. Although an appointment isn’t required, we would advise clients to call reception prior to attending to ensure a nurse is available on the day.

When you visit us for a doctor’s appointment for the first time, you may be offered a well-women’s health check.

Our well-women’s checks cover chronic disease, a range of women’s health issues and provide you with an opportunity to discuss any wellbeing concerns you may have.

Cervical Cancer Screening

Cervical screening and early detection are one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer. You are eligible for cervical screening if you are aged 25 to 74 years old, have a cervix and have ever been sexually active.

If you have not had a Cervical Screening Test since the program changed on 1 December 2017, you are overdue, so please call FWHC to book your appointment.

A self-collection option for HPV testing was introduced on 1 July 2022 and you can call our nurses to see if you’re eligible for this.

Breast Examinations

Being breast aware means knowing what your breasts look and feel like, understanding how the breast changes during the menstrual cycle and what unusual changes to look out for.

Demonstrations on how to check your breasts are a part of our Women’s Health Screening service.

In addition to regular self–checks, women 40 years and older can access free screening mammograms through BreastScreenWA.

Contraception

We can help you to find the contraception that’s right for you. Our doctors provide Implanon, copper, Mirena and Kyleena IUD insertions and removals as well as other types of contraception.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Our nurses provide a walk-in STI screening service Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, but it is advisable to call ahead to confirm nurse availability.

For clients with symptoms, please book an appointment with the doctor or call to speak with the nurse.

Vagina and Vulva Concerns

Vaginal problems such as discharge, odour, soreness, itching or dryness are quite common and sometimes simply talking to a nurse can help you to resolve some of these issues.

For a more comprehensive consultation, book  an appointment with one of our doctors.

Menstrual Problems and Menopause

Whether you’ve just started your period journey, or it has recently come to an end, or anywhere in-between, we are here to help.

Pregnancy

If you’ve recently found out you’re pregnant and are unsure what to do next, we provide pregnancy care, referral to maternity services, or help you to find the support you need.

Interpreter Service

Our Reception staff can organise booking a phone interpreter for your consult. Please let Reception know if you require an interpreter prior to your appointment.
